The Porsche Boxster Story

Things were not looking good for Porsche in the early 1990s: sales of its 944 and 928 models were sluggish and the production costs of the 964, the latest in its successful 911 Series, were far too high.

In 1993, Porsche presented a new sports car, tucked away in the remotest corner of the Detroit motor show. By making abundant use of the same parts found in the 911, it could be manufactured at a much lower price. The “Boxster” – a neologism based on the words “roadster” and “boxer (engine)” – kindled enormous enthusiasm, and once production started in 1996 the coffers in Zuffenhausen quickly filled up again.

This film tells the story of the Boxster, from the early stages of prototype development, through to the unveiling of the latest model, and includes a test of how it performs in everyday life.
